Luna Tavares-Fenner is 7 years old and already knows how to explain her transformation. “My black mark is gone. I’m a princess”, she says. She was born in Florida with a dark nevus across her nose and eyelids, resembling a Batman mask.
To remove it, she has received six skin grafts and injections of a medication that broke down the tissue. She also received photodynamic therapy in Europe. The journey included bandages and infections. Luna is still recovering from her latest procedure, but the smile never leaves her face.
Carolina, her mother, accompanied her throughout the process. At every appointment, Luna brings her dolls along to keep her company through this arduous process. But each day brings more faith that it will all be worth it. Luna is undoubtedly a very brave girl.
