Milan is 13 and Sasha is 11. And almost four years after the agreement that allowed them to move to Miami with their mother, their parents came face to face again at the Ciutat de la Justícia de Barcelona.
It was Tuesday, October 6. The negotiations between the parties had failed to reach an agreement, so Shakira and Gerard Piqué appeared in person before the family court to review the visitation schedule.
Hours later, the singer’s legal team released a statement: “The request is not intended to reduce the time the children spend with their father”. What she is proposing is something else: that during short holidays, Piqué be the one to travel to Miami, so the children don’t have to take transatlantic trips for short stays or deal with the time-zone disruption.
According to the statement, this way they would maintain their school, social, and family routine. And from an adult perspective, it’s the fairest thing, because as she put it: that the effort shouldn’t fall only on the children.
