Shakira was just 4 years old when she wrote her first poem, “The Crystal Rose”, and dedicated it to her mom. She was still a little girl, but she had already found in words a way to tell her how much she loved her.
Her own father, William Mebarak, had been one of her earliest inspirations: she watched him write for hours and was fascinated by the stories that came from his typewriter.
Four years later, at 8, she wrote her first song, “Your Dark Glasses”. This time, the inspiration was her dad. William had lost one of his children and, after the tragedy, began wearing dark glasses to hide his pain. Shakira observed this and turned what she saw into a song.
Before filling stadiums and becoming a global star, Shakira was already finding her first stories at home: a mom she wrote a poem for and a dad whose pain she turned into music. ❤️
