Two attacks, two amputations, and barely 10 minutes apart. A 19-year-old young woman lost a leg after being attacked by a shark while swimming at a beach in Brazil, just one day after an 11-year-old boy suffered a similar attack at another nearby seaside resort.

The young woman, identified as Marcela Vitoria de Lima Santos, was pulled from the water by lifeguards and beachgoers while losing a large amount of blood. A doctor who was off duty applied an emergency tourniquet, an action that, according to the hospital, was key to saving her life. Unfortunately, her leg had to be amputated at the thigh. The minor attacked the previous day also lost a limb.

There have been 4 attacks so far this year alone, including the death of a 13-year-old boy.
