Macaulay Culkin was moved to tears as he remembered Catherine O’Hara at the Emmys. The actress, who played his mom in Home Alone, died on January 30 at the age of 71.
For Culkin, their bond never remained merely fictional. He remembered her as warm, funny, and always willing to cheer him up, but made it clear that the word that best summed up what she meant to him was “mom”.
O’Hara was also honored by Dan Levy and Annie Murphy, her Schitt’s Creek co-stars, in a moment that brought together different stages of a career beloved by generations.
Before wrapping up, Macaulay delivered a simple line that ended up hitting even harder: “By the way, call your mother tonight”.
