Larissa Nicole Rodríguez was only 17 years old. She was a cheerleader, a tennis player, and dreamed of going to college, but her life came to a sudden and unexpected end in October 2025.

What seemed like a harmless habit to boost her energy — drinking one can a day of Alani Nu energy drink — allegedly turned into a tragedy that has now led her family into a legal battle in Texas. According to the medical examiner, her heart became enlarged due to stress and high levels of caffeine consumption.

“She drank one every day,” her family said, as they filed a lawsuit against the company seeking one million dollars. They argue that there are not enough clear warnings about the potential heart risks these drinks may pose to minors.

The teenager reportedly suffered from silent pressure on her heart after being exposed to advertising that promoted the drinks as beneficial and healthy. Her parents say they are seeking justice so that no other family has to experience the pain of losing a young child so suddenly.

Are these energy drinks really worth the risk?
