Jordan Hauenschild was 26 years old and living an orderly life in Queensland, Australia, when a photo in her Instagram feed changed everything for her. There was Pitiuruk, a young Kichwa Indigenous man from the Ecuadorian Amazon, and something about that image made her write to him that very night.

There was no immediate spark. For nearly four months, they got to know each other through video calls, sharing stories of lives that could not have been more different: she was in an office, while he was in the middle of the jungle. When she finally decided to meet him, Jordan left her job and flew for more than 30 hours to reach him.

The world assumed that she had given up everything to disappear in the Amazon, like in a fairy tale. But the reality is different: today, they divide their lives between Australia and Ecuador, and together they share the Kichwa culture that brought them together with thousands of people on social media.
