On April 18, 2023, a truck crashed into Kaci Wilson’s car as she was returning home with her children. Myles, her four-year-old boy, suffered a brain injury and did not survive.
Amid the greatest pain, the family made a decision: to donate his organs. Myles’s heart went to Saleh Ahmad, a boy from North Carolina who had been born with a severe heart condition and who spent three years waiting for a transplant.
The families stayed in touch ever since, although they had never met in person.
That changed on May 25, 2025, the day Kaci got married in Georgia. Saleh arrived as a surprise guest. Before the ceremony, his parents took out a stethoscope and handed it to Kaci.
They helped her place it on the boy’s chest. And there, once again, after two years of silence, Kaci heard her son’s heart beating.
Minutes later, Saleh walked with her down the aisle, holding hands, accompanied by Kaci’s father.
Yara Ahmad, Saleh’s mother, said that they now feel like they are one family.
Kaci described it as the closest she had felt to her son since losing him.
One heart stopped. And found a way to keep beating.
