Cameron Diaz is 53 years old and has just welcomed her third child. His name is Nautas. None of her three children grew in her womb.

Raddix arrived in 2019. Cardinal in 2024. Now Nautas, in May 2026. All three were born via surrogacy, according to multiple media outlets, although the couple never confirmed it in their own words; they did say that the actress went through several fertility treatments.

Benji Madden, her husband, announced the news on Instagram with a drawing of a pirate ship, not a photo. He wrote that they were “happy, excited, and very grateful”. She did not post anything on her social media. She only left a comment with hearts.

Ten years ago, Diaz disappeared from film at the height of her career. There was no scandal or public explanation. She simply left to build a home and a family, far from the cameras that had made her famous.

Now that she has returned to acting, the comeback has also brought the usual questions: that if she has the money to pay for it, it is not the same; that at 53 she should not; that those children are not her “real” children because they were all conceived through surrogacy.

But there is a simpler question that almost no one asks: what other way is there to measure a mother, if not by how much she stays when she could have left?

The womb was never the requirement. Commitment always was.
