Jasmine Ramirez’s case seems almost impossible to believe. The 14-year-old teenager was living with an extremely rare condition that caused her left leg to grow uncontrollably from the time she was just 2 years old. Over time, the limb came to weigh nearly 79 kilos, and the disease also affected part of her abdomen.

For more than 12 years, Jasmine had to live with a weight that not only changed her body, but also made it increasingly difficult for her to move, get dressed, and live a life similar to that of any girl her age. Her family stood by her through different stages of treatment, while doctors tried to control a disease that kept progressing.

She underwent several surgeries over the years, but a recent infection changed everything. The doctors made a radical decision to save her life: amputate the leg and remove as much of the tumor as possible.

In December 2025, Jasmine underwent an operation lasting nearly 17 hours at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Florida. During the procedure, her left leg was amputated and nearly 90% of the tumor that was also affecting her abdomen was removed.

She spent Christmas hospitalized with her family, in an incredibly difficult period, but one also marked by the hope of starting over. Today she is already back home and beginning a new life, after leaving behind a part of her body that for years had also put her life at risk.
