Scarlett didn’t make a sound. She just stuck her paws through the door of her kennel, again and again, hoping someone would hold them.
She was in a U.S. animal shelter and so skinny that her bones showed. After stretching toward the hallway so many times, her paws became covered in cuts. Kelsey McDonough, an animal welfare volunteer, noticed when she rested her arms across the kennel door and the wounds lined up exactly with the edge where the little dog leaned. She had gone to the shelter just to keep the dogs company, but the sight left her speechless, so she decided to record it and post it on TikTok.
The video went viral. It reached Colleen, a resident of San Diego, California, who showed it to her husband. He didn’t hesitate: “We have to get her”. They got in the car that same day.
When Colleen bathed Scarlett for the first time, she could feel her little bones beneath her hands. From then on, there was food, care, and affection. As she gained weight, her personality emerged: sweet, cheerful, affectionate. “She really did get her miracle”, Kelsey said. The little dog no one paid attention to now has a family waiting for her at home.
