Several drivers slammed on their brakes. Others called 911, unable to believe what they had just seen. On May 30, 2026, around noon, multiple witnesses reported to authorities that a man was throwing kittens out of his car window while driving at high speed on Interstate 65 in Homewood, Alabama.

Thomas Ronald Liccione, 21, was detained minutes later when police located his vehicle on Lakeshore Drive, following witnesses’ description. The investigation confirmed the worst: all five kittens were crushed to death by other vehicles on the highway. Liccione was arrested for aggravated animal cruelty and taken to the Jefferson County jail.

His bail was set at $15,000—and according to jail records, he paid it in less than an hour. Today he is free. And justice for five lives that could not defend themselves?
