What each of them lacked turned out to be exactly what the other could offer.

Melanie Knecht was born with spina bifida and uses a wheelchair, while Trevor Hahn lost his sight due to glaucoma.

They both loved nature, but faced different obstacles to hiking mountain trails on their own.

They met while practicing adaptive sports in Colorado, United States, and discovered they could become the perfect team. Trevor carries Melanie in a specially designed backpack, while she becomes his eyes and tells him where to go, where the rocks are, and when a dangerous drop appears.

That’s how Hiking with Sight was born, the project through which they began hiking trails and preparing to reach ever higher summits. For them, the key was never that one “helped” the other, but that they were both indispensable to making it happen.

Melanie explained it in a way that perfectly sums up their adventure: when two people with a crazy idea meet, it stops being crazy and simply becomes an idea. Together, they showed that some goals don’t require fewer obstacles, but the right person walking beside you. ❤️
