They judged her for years for saying she had breast surgery. Until she revealed it was menopause that was changing her body

Salma Hayek heard it for years: implants, surgery, that she must have done something to look like that.

She denied it. And then she decided to explain it.

On Red Table Talk, Jada Pinkett’s show on Facebook, Salma revealed that she never had surgery. What happened was something else. Something that happens to many women’s bodies and that almost no one talks about out loud.

“It turns out I’m one of those women for whom it happened at every stage”, she said. Her body changed so much that people even asked her if she had had surgery.

“A lot of people said I had breast augmentation surgery, I don’t blame them. My breasts were smaller. They have kept growing, many, many sizes. And my back has really been suffering. And not many people talk about this.”

She began experiencing menopause symptoms in her mid-40s. It wasn’t glamorous. It was real.

And yet, the world still expected her to look the same as she did at 30.

So she said what she thought: “There are no expiration dates for women. That has to go.”

She didn’t say it as a slogan. She said it with her own body as proof.

Salma’s body did not change out of vanity. It changed from having lived, given birth, and gone through the passage of time that all women go through. It’s just that people examined hers under a magnifying glass and with judgment.

That was all there was behind it.
