What seemed like an ordinary trip ended up becoming a tragedy that left permanent consequences. An Irish woman, Grainne Kealy, suffered devastating facial injuries after riding as a passenger with her feet resting on a car’s dashboard at the time of an accident.

According to international media reports, the impact caused the woman’s legs to be violently thrust toward her face when the vehicle’s safety systems activated. The force of the crash caused multiple fractures to her face and skull, in addition to severe damage that required numerous reconstructive surgeries.

The images taken after the accident shocked thousands of people, especially one photograph showing a deep indentation in the front part of her head, a consequence of the complex injuries she suffered during the crash.

After years of medical treatments and surgical procedures, the woman decided to share her story to warn about a habit that many people consider harmless: traveling with your feet on the dashboard.

Road safety specialists have pointed out on several occasions that this posture can multiply the severity of injuries during a collision, even at moderate speeds.

Her case went viral precisely because of the harshness of the aftermath and the message it seeks to convey. What began as an everyday gesture ended up leaving physical marks that will stay with her for the rest of her life.
