A woman publicly reported a series of incidents that, according to her, show the discrimination the security personnel at the Mexico City Metro have shown her. This situation has happened over and over as she tried to ride the subway with her youngest daughter who is disabled and requires a wheelchair.

This happened mainly at Juarez station, where access to the elevator is restricted and controlled by personnel. According to the woman, she had been banned from using the elevator more than once, despite the special accommodations her daughter obviously needs to move around.

A video the woman created is making its rounds on social media, showing how the woman tries to use the elevator with her child while a worker demands documentation to authorize their usage. The woman claims that, even with the papers that confirm her daughter’s condition, she had been questioned repeatedly and denied usage of the elevator.

The case sparked waves of reactions from the internet, where people questioned the actions of those involved and have demanded clarifications as to the protocols the subway system has regarding inclusive accommodations to guarantee respect and freer movement of disabled passengers and their families.
