Harrison Okene starred in one of the most incredible survival stories at sea. In May 2013, the 29-year-old Nigerian cook was working on the AHT Jascon-4 tugboat, linked to oil operations in the Niger Delta, when a wave capsized the vessel and sank it to a depth of 30 meters.
The ship became trapped on the ocean floor, and Okene managed to stay alive inside an air bubble. He spent nearly 60 hours without food, with almost no light and water up to his chest, while thinking that no one would find him. The accident left 11 crew members dead.
The surprise came when divers hired to recover bodies found a moving hand. Rescuer Nico Van Heerden discovered that Okene was still alive and began a complex operation to get him out without the change in pressure ending his life.
