In Singapore, eating or drinking on a bus, listening to music at a volume that bothers other passengers, or putting your feet on the seats can now result in a fine.
As of September 23, 2026, new rules for public buses and their terminals have come into force, aimed at penalizing conduct considered bothersome or disruptive. Fines can reach up to 500 Singapore dollars, equivalent to about US$392.
The regulations also provide for higher penalties for actions that cause danger, obstructions, or mess on buses and in their facilities. In those cases, fines can reach 5,000 Singapore dollars, about US$3,900.
In other words, a playlist at full volume can end in a fine, while headphones remain the more affordable option for the trip. And it’s also a good idea to put away your feet and snacks: the bus is not a living room, sofa, or dining room. 🎧
