Cristian Díaz died after being shot four times at the entrance of his building in Villa Lugano in July 2018.
Eight years later, the man accused of killing him arrived at his trial wearing a black hat, sunglasses, and a T-shirt that read “If you wait, you will understand”.
His name is Cristian Álvarez, everyone knows him as Pity, and he was the leader of bands such as Viejas Locas and Intoxicados.
As soon as he sat down, he rested his head against the wall and closed his eyes. When the judge asked for his ID number, he could not remember it. When asked whether he used drugs, he said he quit crack cocaine in 1992.
And when it was time to hear the charges against him, he fell asleep—again—and yes, he was even heard snoring.
His defense attorney requested that the trial be suspended, arguing that he is not mentally fit to face it.
The prosecutor replied that the defendant “clearly chooses when to be lucid and when to fall asleep”.
The court rejected the suspension, and the trial continues this week, with 70 witnesses yet to testify.
Pity, meanwhile, said he will speak “later on”. 😴⚖️ Is it a strategy, or is the defendant truly not fit to face the proceedings?
