Skarlent Rodríguez was 23 years old, had won the title of Miss Grand Orlando 2025, and had just returned to Venezuela to be with José Castro, her boyfriend. They never imagined those days would be their last.

On June 24, two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck the country and brought down the building where they lived in Catia La Mar, La Guaira state. Her family launched a campaign to fund the search, clinging to the hope of finding them alive.

Five days later came the answer no one wanted to hear: they were found dead, side by side among the rubble. José’s tragedy did not end there — he also lost his father, his grandmother, his uncle, and his aunt in the same collapse. Today, the campaign that sought to save them is covering the costs of their farewell.
