Honey-Rae was born with difficulty breathing.
While she was in special care, her mother, Tanya Phillips, noticed something on her skin: a red birthmark that covered the entire right side of her body, from her toes to her lower back.
Over time, that mark began to attract curious looks and whispers from strangers on the street.
Tanya and her husband Adam, a couple from the United Kingdom, decided to do something few parents would imagine: get an exact replica of their daughter’s mark tattooed on their own legs.
Tanya received it as a 40th-birthday gift; Adam, as a Christmas gift. Each tattoo cost about 124 dollars and took two and a half hours.
When Honey-Rae, then 18 months old, saw the fully healed tattoo on her mother’s skin, she gently touched it, pointed to her own leg, and said a single word: ‘Match’.
For her parents, that word confirmed that their daughter would never feel alone in front of the mirror.
