From the outside, Selena Gomez seems to have it all. But there’s one dream she still hasn’t been able to fulfill and isn’t willing to give up on.
In 2024, during an interview with Vanity Fair, she shared for the first time that her health problems would make a pregnancy risky for both her and the baby. She also acknowledged that she had to grieve that reality, because for years she had imagined becoming a mom in the most traditional way.
In that same conversation, she said adoption and surrogacy were real possibilities for her and made one thing very clear: in the end, she didn’t care how that child came into her life because “it’ll be mine, it’ll be my baby”.
Two years later, Selena spoke about it again at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York. There, she reaffirmed that her desire remains unchanged and once again envisioned herself as a mom in the future.
Selena may have had to change her idea of how that child will come into her life, but her desire to have one hasn’t changed one bit.
