For many, a mother is sacred and they would give anything to have her with them one more day. But William Nowak, 84, took that love to its darkest extreme.

The man, a resident of Palm Bay, Florida, was charged with attempted murder after shooting his own son in the face. The reason was a family argument with his son because he did not visit his sick mother often enough, an 85-year-old woman who was receiving palliative care at home.

On the night of Tuesday, December 9, the conversation escalated and Nowak warned his son: “Get out of my house or I’m going to shoot you”. He then went into his bedroom, took a gun, and despite the desperate pleas of his daughter-in-law, aimed at his own son’s face and pulled the trigger.

When police arrived, they found the son miraculously alive and Nowak confused and not fully understanding why he was being arrested, now facing attempted murder charges.
