In Game of Thrones, Lady was put down in the second episode. Ned Stark had to do it with his own hands, and thousands of viewers cried during that scene. But off camera, the story took a different turn.
Zunni, the real-life Northern Inuit dog who brought Lady to life, had spent the entire first season alongside Sophie Turner, who was only 17 at the time. The bond became so strong that, when filming ended and the production was looking to rehome her, Sophie’s mother, Sally Turner, took matters into her own hands: she spoke with the team and managed to get permission for them to adopt her.
That is how Zunni left the filming sets in the United Kingdom and moved in with the Turner family in Coventry, where she lived as just another pet until she died in 2017, at seven years of age. Sansa Stark lost her direwolf in fiction, but Sophie Turner gained a friend for life.
