A kiss between Sophie Turner and her friend Tabitha Doherty sparked all kinds of reactions after the two were photographed together in London.

The images show the Game of Thrones star kissing Doherty on the lips after a shopping trip in Notting Hill. People described the moment as a playful goodbye between friends, without suggesting that there was a romantic relationship between them.

However, the photos racked up millions of views and prompted comments such as “I need that kind of friendship” and “I’m so confused”. Another person even joked with the phrase “I kissed a girl and I liked it”.

But for those who had followed Turner’s statements, the kiss brought to mind something she herself had said years earlier.

In 2019, the actress spoke about her romantic experiences and said: “I’ve known enough men to know; I’ve known enough women to know”. When asked about her words, she added: “Everyone experiments. It’s part of growing up. I fall in love with souls, not genders”.

Turner drew attention again in 2021 by celebrating Pride Month with messages such as “Bi Pride” and “Time isn’t straight and neither am I”.

That’s why, although a kiss between friends doesn’t by itself prove that there’s a romance, the images inevitably made her old words circulate again.

And Sophie had already explained how she sees it: for her, attraction isn’t necessarily limited by a person’s gender.
