Luis de la Fuente held nothing back. Ahead of Spain vs. Belgium in the quarterfinals, the coach was asked about the biggest controversy of the World Cup: François Letexier’s refereeing in the Argentina-Egypt match that ended 3-2.
His response was blunt: “I don’t understand why you are asking about the controversy surrounding the referee. The referee got everything right. In fact, I would like to congratulate him. Every decision he made was impeccable”.
The problem is that on the other side of the ring is Hossam Hassan, the Egyptian coach, who directly accused the match of being fixed in Argentina’s favor and even promised not to watch any more matches in the tournament. The Egyptian Federation has already filed a formal complaint against the referee.
