Laura has a simple and disturbing business: she packages her own feces into capsules and sells them online for 300 dollars.

People with obesity buy them, but above all, mothers and fathers of children with autism write to her. People like Sofía, 35, a single mother of a 5-year-old child with autism and high support needs, who has even considered trying the treatment although she knows it has no scientific backing. The desperation to find something that might help their children drives them into a market accountable to no one.

Specialist González Suárez warns bluntly: the tests used by these sellers do not guarantee that the feces are safe for a transplant. There is no screening, no traceability, no hospital behind it. Only an online transaction and the empty promise of a cure that science has not yet found.
