

No one knew his name.
For years, he lived chained behind a fence, on the cold concrete, with his mouth covered by tape that did not even let him bark. The neighbors watched him spend his days there, motionless, and something about that silence troubled them more than any bark.


When they finally worked up the courage to act, they found an animal who was not asking for food or games: he was asking for someone to notice him. They freed him from the chains, removed the tape, and gave him what he had never had: a roof, affection, and a name. Today Alfie runs freely around a different yard, and every step he takes is proof that abandonment does not have the final word.
