Spike had spent three days alone in the parking lot of a supermarket in Camden, Ohio.
His back was shaved, there were bloodstains on his neck, and he was already around 10 years old. The store owner gave him scraps so he could survive, but no one took him home. Until Rita Kimball saw him and didn’t think twice: she opened her car door and Spike jumped inside without hesitation.
Since that day, more than 13 years ago, Rita gave him what he was missing: food, care, and a safe place to grow old in peace. That love resulted in something extraordinary. On December 7, 2022, Guinness World Records certified Spike as the oldest living dog on the planet, when he was 23 years old. Today, Spike is 26 years old, weighs just 5.85 kg, and measures 22.86 cm, but his story goes far beyond that: it is the story of a stray dog who found, late but in time, someone to give him the care he deserves.
