Steve Greig, an accountant from Denver, didn’t know how to move forward after a car ran over Wolfgang, his lifelong chihuahua, in 2012. The pain was so great that he needed to turn it into something good.

He went to a shelter and asked for the oldest and least wanted animal they had. He took home Eeyore, a 14-year-old chihuahua with a heart murmur and ruined knees. Seeing the peace in his eyes was enough for Steve to make a promise: every time one of his rescues passed away, he would adopt another senior animal that no one else wanted.

Today, a decade later, he has nearly 40 rescues, and more than a million people follow his story on Instagram (@wolfgang2242). He wakes up at 5 in the morning to cook special food for 11 elderly dogs with serious illnesses, along with a giant pig named Bikini, chickens, ducks, and a cat. All with beds custom-made for their tired bodies. 🐶💛
