Susan went for a walk on Christmas Eve in 1992.
She was heading to a supermarket near her home in Clarksville, Tennessee. She never returned. For 29 years, no one knew what had happened to her: her remains were found without a name and were recorded only as “Ina Jane Doe”, a case filed away in Illinois that seemed doomed to be forgotten.
Everything changed when Dr. Amy Michael of the University of New Hampshire decided to reopen the case using technology that did not exist in 1992. A laboratory in California generated a DNA profile, and the Redgrave Research team set out to trace family trees until they found the right family.
In March 2022, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed what science had found: those remains were Susan Lund’s. Nearly three decades later, someone was finally able to say her full name and say goodbye to her as she deserved. 🕯️
