Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe are ninth cousins once removed.

The 29-year-old Euphoria actress has long been compared to the legend of the 50s, and now a study by MyHeritage has found that the resemblance is more than just a matter of style. According to its genealogical research, they are related through their fathers. Steven Sweeney, Sydney’s father, and Charles Stanley Gifford, Marilyn’s father, are descended from Ezra Perry, one of the first settlers of Sandwich, Massachusetts.

The connection is rather tenuous, since Perry lived in the 17th century. But Sydney has never hidden her admiration for Marilyn, who died in 1962 at the age of 36. In February, she appeared at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in a vintage dress inspired by one by Ceil Chapman that Monroe herself wore on the cover of Life in April 1952. And in December 2025, for the premiere of The Housemaid, she chose a custom design by Galia Lahav that evoked the famous white dress from The Seven Year Itch. Coincidence or blood?
