Three-quarters of the way through the flight, he started shouting racist insults and making crude comments at the crew and other passengers, according to Juan Mejía, a former police officer who was sitting nearby. When Lundeen became physical, Mejía didn’t hesitate, jumped into the seat next to him and, with help from his friend Richard Olenick, kept him restrained with duct tape and plastic zip ties until the plane landed.

“We weren’t trying to hurt him, just control him so things wouldn’t escalate further”, Mejía explained. The flight had to be diverted to Baltimore Airport, where police boarded and arrested Lundeen, who now faces charges of disorderly conduct and second-degree assault. The FBI is still investigating what set everything off. 🔍
