Eddie and Ginny Brown found a way to bring both things together. Through their organization Giving Words, they work alongside high school students who learn mechanics by repairing used vehicles that are later given to single mothers who need transportation.
The young people take part in restoring the cars to good condition while gaining knowledge that could even become a future trade. When they finish, the keys go directly to a family that needs them.
The initiative also has special meaning for Eddie and Ginny because they were both single parents before meeting each other and personally know how difficult it can be to raise a family when you have no way to get around.
Over time, Giving Words has delivered dozens of vehicles. In this way, the students not only learn how to repair a car: they can also see how what they made with their own hands ends up making another family’s life just a little easier.
