Marta didn’t understand a thing. Her mother, without social media accounts of her own, asked her for something very specific: to write to Mikel Oyarzabal on Instagram.
“Hi, I’m the mother of the person who owns this account”, began the message she wanted to send to the Real Sociedad player who won the World Cup with Spain. She wanted to tell him that she admires him, that he has “a very good head on his shoulders”, that he is incredible as a player, and that he should never change. Oh, and that he tell her how old he is and that he is from Andalucía.
Marta resisted amid laughter — “but do you know him? To tell him all that?” — and her mother, with an honesty that disarmed any objection, replied: “No. But it would make me so happy for him to know” 🥹
