Terry, or Topito, as they call him now, had an owner, a home, and a routine in La Guaira, Venezuela. On June 24, 2026, two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 shook the country and buried his home under the rubble. His owner did not survive.

Unlike other pets that were handed over to the victims’ relatives, no one came to claim Terry. Someone took his photo among the remains of the disaster and uploaded it to social media, hoping someone else would recognize him as part of their story.

A woman saw him. And decided that this little dog, who had already lost everything, deserved to have a place of his own again. She prepared a bed, a bowl of water and food, a puppy pad, and even an armchair just for him. She recorded his arrival on TikTok and the video went viral: in the midst of a tragedy that left nearly 2,300 dead, Terry found the part of the story that does have a happy ending.
