That’s love! A young Englishman chose the World Cup with his grandfather over buying his first home, and his reason says it all

Jacob Allmendinger, 21, had $10,000 saved for the down payment on his first home in East Yorkshire, England. But when the time came to decide, he chose something else: taking his 80-year-old grandfather Geoff Golliker to the 2026 World Cup.

Since his grandmother died in 2020, soccer became the thread that kept Jacob and Geoff together. They were no longer just grandfather and grandson, they were best friends. Together they had followed the England national team across North America, building memories that no bank account could replace.

Jacob explained it simply: money for a house can be earned back, but an opportunity like this with his grandfather might never come again. Sometimes the richest people are the ones who choose memories over savings.
