Daniel Ramírez was 20 years old and worked at the small family café facing the sea in Santo Domingo when his life changed because of a single trip. Eleanor Hayes, a retired real estate investor from Florida with a property portfolio valued in the millions, arrived in Punta Cana on vacation. They met, and what began as a conversation on the coast turned, two years later, into a wedding in Miami.

He is 22. She is 72. Fifty years separate them on paper — and according to both of them, nothing else. “Age is just a number”, Daniel told the press. “She makes me feel valued, and I make her feel alive again.” Eleanor, a widow, says she found in him a genuine companionship she did not expect to have again.

Hayes’s adult children have mixed opinions, and social media is no different: there are those who defend love without conditions and those who point directly to the economic difference. The question that no one can answer from the outside — and that everyone asks anyway — is whether the love two people feel is their business or the whole world’s.
