Carlos Casillas was 24 years old when he became the youngest chef in Spain to win a Michelin Star.
Everything was going smoothly. Until one night, after finishing service, he saw a column of smoke rising over the Sierra de Gredos.
He did not hesitate: he closed his restaurant and put his entire team to work 24 hours a day, not to serve fine-dining menus, but stews, pasta, fruit, and options for children.
He joined World Central Kitchen, José Andrés’s NGO, and together they have already distributed more than 15,000 meals to firefighters, volunteers, evacuees, and emergency personnel in Ávila, Spain.
It is not the first time Casillas has responded this way: he already did so in 2021, during the Navalacruz fire.
As the fire consumed the Sierra, he decided that no one fighting the flames would go hungry.
