Olivia Oras was 27 years old and had a life that was just beginning to settle down.
She had been known in Finland since she was 14, had struggled with addiction, anxiety, and the death of a close friend, and had come through all of that to found a lung health NGO in honor of her father.
On September 3, she entered a private clinic in Helsinki to undergo liposuction. She never made it to surgery: she lost consciousness during the anesthesia administered before the procedure.
Doctors at Helsinki University Hospital attempted to resuscitate her without success. Police opened an investigation classifying the case as aggravated negligent homicide, and her family filed a formal complaint to find out what went wrong in that room. So far, the clinic has not said a single word.
