Before Alzheimer’s entered that home, there was a wedding and a promise.
Every morning, while he prepares breakfast, he puts on the same apron: one with a photo of their wedding printed on the front. It is not a whim. It is a strategy of love.
Because his wife no longer always recognizes him. Alzheimer’s stole the names, the dates, sometimes even the face of the man standing in front of her. But every morning, when she looks at that apron, something lights up: there they are, young, smiling, on the day they vowed to be together forever.
And for a moment, there is no need to explain anything. The photo speaks for him.

He could resign himself. He could let the illness decide how much of their story survives. Instead, every morning he hangs that proof of love around his neck and reminds her, without words, who they are to each other.
He does not care for her out of obligation. He cares for her because he continues to choose her, even though she no longer always knows that she chose him.
Some loves fade with routine. And there are loves that, even when memory fades, find a way to keep shining. 💙🤍
