In 1975, while filming Rancho Deluxe in Montana, Jeff Bridges met Susan Geston, a young waitress who worked at the place where the film crew was staying. The first thing that caught his attention was that she had a broken nose and two black eyes from a recent car accident. Even so, the actor says he was completely captivated from the very first moment.
He worked up the courage to ask her out, but Susan turned him down. However, fate brought them together again a few days later somewhere else. This time they began talking, started a relationship, and two years later, they got married. What seemed like a chance encounter ended up becoming one of Hollywood’s most enduring love stories.

The greatest test for both of them came decades later. In 2020, Bridges was diagnosed with lymphoma and, while receiving chemotherapy, contracted COVID-19. The infection was so severe that he spent weeks hospitalized and came very close to dying. Throughout that entire process, Susan did not leave his side for a single day. The actor has said that she was the one who fought for him when he had almost no strength left and has publicly described her as his “absolute champion”.
