But while the screen was shining, social media was on fire. The problem: all the artists —Shakira, Belinda, Maná, J Balvin— sang with playback.
The comments did not take long: “Belinda blatantly doing playback, national mockery”, “how embarrassing that Shakira does playback at a World Cup opening” and “none of that show made it through the screen, there is no soul in music anymore” were some of the phrases that flooded Twitter and Instagram. 😬🔥
A big spectacle on the outside, empty on the inside? Ceremonies remain in Toronto and Los Angeles on June 12… let’s see if they learn the lesson. 👀
