The bodies of the four Italian divers who were part of a scientific mission from the University of Genoa were found inside a cave 60 meters deep in the Vaavu Atoll.
The remains were in the third section of the cave, the farthest from the entrance, while the body of the first Italian victim, diving instructor Gianluca Benedetti, had been located the previous week near the entrance.
The rescue operation also claimed another victim: Sergeant Major Mohamed Mahdhee, a diver from the National Defence Force who lost his life due to underwater decompression while searching for the divers.
