It was a company party like any other: about 50 guests, music, and six people inside the pool of a home in Karmei Yosef, Israel. No one imagined the bottom would give way.
Within seconds, the water began draining into a hole that opened beneath the surface, forming a 15-meter tunnel. The suction dragged two men in. One managed to get out on his own, with minor injuries to his feet and legs. The other, Klil Kimhi, 32, disappeared under the water.
Rescue teams took several hours to reach him because of the risk that the sinkhole would keep expanding. They found his body at the end of the tunnel. Police opened an investigation to determine whether the pool had the proper permits and what caused the collapse.
