Miguel Carcaño was sentenced in 2011 to 21 years and 3 months in prison for the murder of Marta del Castillo, a 17-year-old girl who disappeared in Seville in 2009. The case shocked the country not only because of the brutality of the crime, but because Marta’s body was never found.

For years, Carcaño gave different versions of what happened, which caused enormous pain and helplessness for the young woman’s family. In addition, although he was ordered to pay multimillion compensation to Marta’s parents, much of that money allegedly was never paid.

Now, there is a possibility that Miguel Carcaño could be released on May 8, 2030 due to the Spanish prison system. Although he was sentenced to 21 years and 3 months in prison, the release date takes into account factors such as time already served, prison benefits, and reductions provided for by law.
