For hours, those watching from the riverbank followed Morocho’s every move, unsure whether he would make it out alive.
The little dog had become trapped on a concrete structure in the middle of the Mapocho River in Santiago, Chile, after heavy rains caused the water level to rise considerably. Firefighters, police officers, and municipal teams took part in a rescue operation that lasted more than four hours.
Another little dog named Lulú was rescued first, but Morocho was so frightened that every attempt to approach him made him move toward more dangerous areas. They even tried to lure him with food, but without success.
Then what everyone feared happened: he fell into the water, and the strong current began carrying him downstream. Some people following the rescue from the riverbank thought he wouldn’t survive.
But Morocho kept swimming until he found a way out and managed to reach the riverbank on his own. After keeping an entire rescue operation on edge, he ended up proving that he still had the strength to save himself.
