In May 2020, Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić was identified during a police operation in Bosnia, at an establishment where authorities were investigating alleged crimes related to prostitution, drug trafficking, and illegal possession of weapons.
According to his own account, later backed by international media, he had only attended a social gathering. He was held while the proceedings continued, gave a statement to authorities, and was released without charges. He was never linked to the organization under investigation, and the Slovenian football federation publicly came out in his support.
The case seemed closed until his name resurfaced for another reason. FIFA chose him to officiate the World Cup final between Argentina and Spain. That is when the photos from that raid reappeared, this time without the full context.
