Laurin Bank was 30 years old, had stage 4 cancer in her bones, liver, and lungs, and a wedding date she had no intention of moving for anything in the world.

When the cancer returned in August 2017—2 years after she had been declared disease-free—the doctors in Columbia, South Carolina, asked her to move up the ceremony. She replied that changing that date would be surrendering. On March 24, 2018, the same anniversary of when she had met Michael, she walked to the altar without a wheelchair or oxygen, and danced all night in front of 225 guests.

7 months later, on October 21, 2018, she died. Her bouquet carried photos of her parents—both of whom had died of stage 4 cancer. Michael wrote: “I was able to carry her to bed and hold her until her last breath.”
