Arturo Chacón saw him first: a small head poking above the waves, far from any shore.
It was Tuesday, August 4, off Cedros Island in Mexico, and he and his fishing companions did not hesitate to bring the boat closer. The dog no longer had the strength to keep swimming. One of the fishermen leaned over the railing, grabbed him firmly, and pulled him aboard, where the animal lay exhausted but safe among the coolers and fishing rods.
What no one expected was what happened later at the dock: someone recognized the dog and helped locate his owner, who had been searching for him for some time without knowing that he was adrift on the open sea.
